Mobility Program Fellow - Variety - the Children's Charity

Location: Des Moines, IA    Dates: May 20 - August 9, 2019

Compensation: $575/week stipend, up to 5% bonus     Deadline: March 24, 2019


Future Leaders In Action Overview:

FLIA cultivates leaders and strengthens youth-oriented nonprofits through a fellowship program. Fellows, individuals interested in entering the social sector, work on-site full-time at a partner nonprofit to develop or implement a pre-determined enrichment program.

Throughout the fellowship, fellows gain various professional skills including fundraising, communication, program development, in a fast-paced, hands-on learning environment.


Variety - the Children's Charity Overview:

Variety - the Children's Charity is dedicated to improving the lives of children who are at-risk, underprivileged, critically ill or living with special needs. Variety's initiatives focus on five programs: Grant Program, Mobility, Variety Vans, Variety Star Playgrounds, and the Compassion Fund.


Position Overview and Responsibilities:

You will ...

  • Assist with restructuring the Mobility Program, which includes creating a system for the Bikes for Kids program to be more effective and planning for the next year of the program

  • Create a more effective system for the specialized bikes and mobility equipment to children who live with special needs, which includes assisting with selecting applicants, ordering equipment, and communicating with families, children, and donors

  • Assist Executive Director with grant process, including outreach to charitable applicants as well as the board of directors to schedule and attend review meetings and update documents and spreadsheets as the process unfolds

  • Work on projects that are event, donor relations and marketing specific,  on an as available basis

  • Attend pre-fellowship training retreat in Chicago, IL from May 20-25, 2019 (expenses covered)

  • Fundraise $500 (with guidance from FLIA)

  • Actively participate in weekly FLIA professional development responsibilities including check-in calls

  • Write two blog articles

  • Complete final report and video
