Alliyah Dookie with South Bronx United

SUMMARY

Alliyah worked as a College Prep Program Fellow at South Bronx United (SBU) where she was in charge of ensuring the success of SBU's College Prep services for the 2023 rising high school seniors. Services within this program include support with students’ academic plans, the college and financial aid application process, as well as applying for scholarships based on both merit and financial need. This program is the keystone of SBU’s effort to provide a pathway from middle school to high school to college to careers for primarily first-generation and immigrant youth.

  • Created Student Folders that included a list of resources about financial aid, colleges and application processes

  • Coordinated and led a College Personal Statement workshop in collaboration with PIMCO

  • Led 30-minute elective workshops with students called the Game of Life where students are introduced to a variety of career options

IMPACT

SBU’s Class of 2023 consisted of approximately 30 students—one of the largest class the SBU program has hosted. Alliyah also made contact with 6 other students from their Global Youth Program to make them aware of college events throughout the summer. Alliyah’s Game of Life class consisted of 10-12 additional students outside of the program.
