Feeding the Future Project Fellow - Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa
Location: Des Moines, IA (in-person)

Compensation: $600/week stipend

COVID-19 Note:
Masks are required in all common spaces and in-person meetings of two or more individuals at BGCCI locations. Anyone in close contact of someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19 will be informed of a possible transmission. Those in close contact must quarantine and test according to the current best practices adopted by the organization. Due to COVID-19, FLIA and BGCCI may move the fellowship entirely remote if there is a spike in cases.
Future Leaders in Action Overview:
Future Leaders in Action (FLIA) cultivates leaders and strengthens youth-oriented nonprofits through a fellowship program. Fellows, individuals interested in entering the social sector, work on-site full-time at a partner nonprofit to develop or implement a pre-determined enrichment program.
Throughout the fellowship, fellows gain various professional skills including time-management, communication, program development, in a fast-paced, hands-on learning environment.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa is one of the largest and most comprehensive youth development organizations in the Des Moines metro area. They provide a full schedule of diversified activities for members. Their programs provide low- or no-cost opportunities for youth to participate in fun and educationally enriching activities in three key program areas: Academic Success, Character & Leadership, and Healthy Lifestyles.
Position Overview and Responsibilities:
You will …
Expand BGCCI's Feeding the Future program which currently makes fresh perishables and shelf-stable staples available to families at 3 out of 8 clubs to remaining clubs by researching, identifying, implementing, and evaluating best practices for addressing food insecurity
Actively participate in weekly FLIA professional development responsibilities including check-in calls and virtual weekly leadership workshops
Attend virtual leadership training retreat and in-person gatherings with local fellows
By the end of the fellowship, you will have…
Developed pantries or food distribution processes in place at all eight Clubs
Established clear methods for reducing wasted food due to spoilage or lack of desire from families
Communicated to families about the availability of food, types of foods available, and possible use of nutritious foods
Designed a clear system for obtaining and distributing more fresh, perishable foods
Written a report including the number of families (total and by Club) utilizing the pantry system, pounds (or similar measure) of food distributed, and pounds (or similar measure) of food going to waste at the end of the summer program
Written two blog articles
Completed final report and video about the fellowship
