Program Director

Location: Central Iowa or New York Metro Area or Remote
Start Date: July 15, 2025 or sooner if possible
End Date: January 31, 2026 with a possibility for extension
Salary: Equivalent to $68,000 annually
Hours: 40 hours/week

Future Leaders in Action Overview:

Future Leaders in Action (FLIA) recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary and the milestone of supporting over 100 fellows. Future Leaders in Action (FLIA) cultivates leaders and strengthens youth-oriented nonprofits through a fellowship program. Fellows, individuals interested in entering the social sector, work on-site full-time at a partner nonprofit to develop or implement a pre-determined initiative. FLIA’s model is a triple win: a win for partners, fellows, and youth in the communities partners serve.

Summary:

Future Leaders in Action (FLIA) seeks a temporary Program Director to support the organization in implementing new programs and supporting the growth and development of the FLIA community of partners and fellows. Starting in the Fall of 2025, FLIA is piloting a grant making model for nonprofits committed to supporting youth development. The program director will work closely with the Board of Directors and liaise with nonprofit partners who will be FLIA’s inaugural cohort of grantees. 

The successful candidate will have experience working within the nonprofit space, an interest in fostering a network of nonprofits, and a commitment to supporting fellows as they begin their nonprofit journey with the ability to work independently and take initiative. Over the course of the seven (7) months, the director will learn the inner functions of FLIA and manage the grant and fellowship program. The director will provide periodic updates to the Board of Directors and meet with each director to discuss challenges and successes in the FLIA experience. 

The Program Director reports to and is accountable to the Board of Directors, namely its executive committee. The responsibilities should be carried out under directions provided by the board of directors and within established guidelines so that organizational, fundraising, budgetary, community relations and programming objectives are achieved.

With the Board of Directors, the Program Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for Future Leaders in Action’s programs and execution of its mission. This is a temporary seven-month position, aligned with the grant fellowship cycle. If interested, the hired candidate will have the option to be considered for the permanent Executive Director role.

Position Overview and Responsibilities:

You will… 

  • Oversee the full life cycle of the program including the recruitment, selection, and off-boarding of FLIA fellows.

  • Serve as the liaison with grant partners to support fellow supervision and alignment with project goals Create appropriate tracking tools to ensure all granted partners meet their outlined deliverables to the best of their ability.

  • Gather metrics to identify areas of growth and areas of strength, address feedback received around programmatic structure either during the program or during offboarding. 

  • Document and update organizational procedures, systems, and processes for fellows and partner organizations.

  • Support fundraising events led by the Board of Directors.

  • Manage monthly bookkeeping in partnership with FLIA’s accountant.

  • Represent the organization to the community and foster a good relationship and image among the organization, its partners, its donors, its fellows, its alumni, and the general and philanthropic community in each of the cities FLIA works in. 

  • Communicate regularly with nonprofit partners, FLIA fellows, and the Board of Directors.

  • Manage FLIA’s social media platforms and website including preparing content and updating sites.

  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Board.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum two (2)+ years of experience in program coordination, community engagement, or nonprofit operations

  • Experience managing programs and tracking/managing budgets is an asset

  • Strong communication, organization and time management skills  – ability to establish and cultivate strong relationships with a range of diverse stakeholders 

  • Passion for youth development, equity, and social impact 

  • Experience with Slack, Hootsuite, Fundraising CRM, Zoom, Canva, and GSuite is a plus 

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently 

  • Excellent judgment, flexibility, and creative problem-solving skills .

  • Able to work independently and take initiative 

Salary and Benefits:

The position is paid at an annualized rate of $68,000 per year. FLIA offers health care reimbursement and support for remote work for its full-time employees. Additionally, the position will work remotely and enjoys tech reimbursements.

FLIA observes all Federal holidays and offers paid time off with approval.
